Weekly Deals for Dec. 6th

It’s that time of the week again to show you some amazing deals out there on the web that would make great Christmas gifts for those RVers in your life.

The first deal that I bought is ideal for those rainy or cold days at the campground. On Groupon for only $7.00 you can purchase a board game originally priced at $24.99. I know that personally my family loves board games in the evening and we wouldn’t go on a camping trip without them.

radardetectorGroupon has another great deal for all of your campfire cooking. For $18.00 you can get a six pack of flexible grilling skewers originally listed for $89.70. These are perfect for making shish kabobs, grilled veggies, and even roasting marshmallows.

And last but not least Groupon has one last deal that is sure to be a hit with any traveler and that is the Cobra SSR 80 Radar/Laser Detector with UltraBright Data Display. Not only does this little gadget warn drivers of upcoming speed traps but also alerts them to emergency vehicles, railroad crossings and road hazards. This detector would make a perfect little traveling companion and a great gift for the avid RVer or roadtripper.

And as always remember that these deals are only for a limited time so act quickly!

Fragrant Fire Starters

We’ve all been there, you’ve been sitting around the campfire all day and you smell like lighter fluid, smoke, and chemicals.  While unpleasant smelling it’s also not healthy to breathe in.  One way that I’ve found to eliminate this problem and to create a pleasant, earth PineConeGroupfriendly aroma is to make fragrant fire starters.
The best thing about it is its simplicity.  Just take pine cones and any fragrant dried herbs such as rosemary, sage, or cinnamon sticks and roll it up in newspaper.  Then tie both ends of the newspaper making it look like a piece of candy.  When you wanting to start a fire simply bury this in the middle of your wood pile with one end sticking out.  Light the newspaper which will then get the wood started.  Your scent filled fire starter will fill the air with such pleasant aromas don’t be surprised if people start wandering over to find out your secret.
This works great for indoor fireplaces as well and gives a very homey holiday feel when you have guests.

Weekly Deals for November 16th

Wow this week there were some really great deals seemingly geared towards the RV lifestyle that I had a hard time picking three. But these are the ones that I decided were the best deals for this week. And don’t forget to keep thinking about Christmas gifts as well for those RVers in your life.

earwarmersThe first deal is on something I have talked about before and that is audiobooks. There is truly no better way to enjoy and utilize your time in the car traveling than listening to enlightening and entertaining stories read by charismatic narrators. This deal is on groupon and for $15 you get $30 worth of audiobook cd’s or MP3 downloads whichever works best for you. They have a gigantic selection sure to have something for everyone.

The second great find is on eversave. It is a wonderful combination of headphones and ear warmers. With the winter wind blowing it is a perfect gift for the music lover, sports lover, or commuter in your life. It is also perfect for you RVers that like to get out and explore the campgrounds. These usually sell for $39.95 but you can get them now for only $14!

And last but not least on living social there is a deal for $20 you get $40 worth of decorative wall words. I think that these are the perfect way to decorate and express yourself in your RV. Not only are they trendy and unique but they don’t take up any of your space.

And as always remember these deals don’t last long so get them while they are available! Happy shopping!

The Dangers of For Sale by Owner

Driving down the road one day you see an RV for sale by owner so you decide to take a look. The outside of the unit appears to be in decent shape and it doesn’t look too old. Then you see the price tag and it certainly looks appealing! But don’t get too caught up in the too good to be true because chances are it is.

spendingmoneyThere are so many risks involved when you are buying from an individual. For starters you have no way of knowing if the previous owner properly winterized the unit each winter. Also an individual cannot provide financial assistance or accept a trade. But the biggest risk you are taking is that you are purchasing this RV without any warranty or protection. You are agreeing to take the unit as is which you should assume means that nothing works. While the price may seem enticing you should also remember that there are some costly repairs that you may be facing that could negate the low cost of your investment.

For example to replace an RV refrigerator could cost you upwards of $1,200 and if it needs an entire new rubber roof you are looking at a staggering $5,000 and up to repair. In the end your “good deal” could end up costing you more headache, time, hassle, and most importantly money in the end.

The Perfect Gift for the RVer in your Life

First comes cold and then comes snow …
now Christmas will be here before you know.
Your RV buddies will be so glad
You’ll be their favorite pal
Cause you’ll get them the best RV gift
This Blog will show you how.

RVers live a certain type of lifestyle which requires a certain type of gift. If you are already an RVer yourself you’ll know what other RVers like but here are some good gift ideas. When I travel I love to be able to read but due to space and practicality I cannot very well pack all of pocketportableradiomy amazingly heavy books into our travel trailer. The best gift I have ever received to help combat this problem is my Kindle. I can order any books I like, it is lightweight, and easy to travel with. Another wonderful gift I received from my husband after complaining about every radio station from here to Alabama was a set of audio books. The most recent one we listened to was “Until Tuesday” which was an amazing story. It allows you to drive and yet it seems like no time at all has passed when you get so wrapped up in the stories! Much better than finding a new radio station with each town you pass through.

Another tool that I have found particularly useful and feel would make a great Christmas gift is a pocket portable weather radio. This allows the traveler to be aware of any detrimental weather approaching. It is especially nice during the tornado season. A remote car starter also makes a very practical gift that any RVer would appreciate.

If none of these seem like the right gift for the RVer lover in your life or if you wait until the last minute like so many of us do remember that gas cards always make a great gift or stocking stuffer. Happy Shopping!

Weekly Deals for November 9th

The time is here again for me to tell you about a couple great deals online right now. The ones today would make perfect holiday gifts for the RVer in your life!

cloned_image3895-0_grid_6The first one I think would be the most fun and personal gift for the avid RVer is the personalized bobble head. What you do is take a picture of someone and send it to the artists and they then create a bobble head that will look like your loved one. Even more exciting is that they can be holding a golf club, sitting in a sports car, whatever it is that fits their personality and hobbies. This will usually run you around $130 but today on Groupon you can get it for $55!

The other great deal of the week is on living social. They are offering a discount on the U-Grip which is a universal smartphone car mount for dashboards and windshields. This allows you to use your phones gps system or speaker phone hands free and eyes on the road! This is a great gift for the road tripper in your life.

Meals you can Freeze to make your Vacation a Breeze

I love pre-making and then freezing meals to serve my family when we are traveling in our RV. Not only does it give me more time to spend with my family on vacation but I also only have to make a mess in my kitchen once and then be done! Here are some of my families favorite and simplest recipes that everyone will enjoy.

pastaGoulash:

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 clove of garlic minced
  • 1 Tbs olive oil
  • 3/4lb ground beef
  • 2 cans of diced tomatoes
  • 1 can of water
  • 8 oz of elbow macaroni (uncooked)
  • parmesan cheese (optional)

Directions:

Saute the onions and garlic in the olive oil until they become quite see-through. Cook the ground beef and then drain. Add beef, tomatoes, water, macaroni (raw) to the onion mixture and cook for 15 minutes until macaroni is tender. I then let it cool and then put it in a tupperware airtight container with some parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. When you are ready to eat simply take out of the freezer and add 1-2 tablespoons of water or olive oil and microwave. Search with garlic bread and a salad!

Bacon Wrapped Chicken:

Ingredients:

  • 12 Boneless Skinless chicken breast halves
  • 2 8 oz cartons of chive and onion cream cheese
  • 2 Tbs butter
  • 12 slices of bacon.

Directions:

Pound the chicken to 1/2″ thickness and spread 3 Tbs. cream cheese over each individual chicken piece. Dot with a little bit of butter and then roll up the chicken. Wrap each piece of chicken with a bacon strip. Place on a cookie sheet to freeze and then once frozer in a freezer bag (you can put a toothpick through to ensure that it doesn’t unravel). When it’s time to cook let them thaw first then place them seam side down in a greased pan and bake for 35-40 minutes at 400 degrees. Then broil 6 inches from the heat for 3-5 minutes or until bacon becomes crispy.

Chili:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion
  • two Tbs. olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • two cans diced tomatoes
  • one can stewed tomatoes
  • two canss of chili beans
  • one packet of chili seasoning
  • pepper to taste.

Directions:

Put olive oil, garlic, and onions into pot and cook until translucent. Add ground beef and chili seasoning, cook until brown. Then put in tomatoes, chili beans, and some pepper. Cook until the chili thickens. Let cool. The best way I have found to freeze this is by putting them in freezer bags about half full and then laying it on it’s side. Once it freezes it is simple to stack the bags one on top of the other for simple storage.
