Preparing your RV for Spring

After consulting the most high-tech, scientific, and not at all goofy way of predicting the weather, Chuck the groundhog of course, it is official that spring is right around the corner. And you know what spring means, time to get the RV out and ready for the next big adventure. But before you take off down the wide open road there are a few things that you will want to do to ensure your safety and getting the most out of your vacation.

groundhogFirst of all it is of utmost importance to check your RV tires for damage. Remember they have been sitting in the elements and not moved for months now. You will want to look for flaws on the tread area as well as the sidewalls. It is suggested that regardless of the appearance you should replace your tires every 5 years to help prevent future tire failure.

Chances are that you (hopefully) winterized your unit using RV anti-freeze. While RV anti-freeze itself is not toxic they can cause unpleasant odors when heated such as a shower or in a coffee pot. You will want to flush all of the solution out before heading out on a trip.

This is also the perfect time to check all of your safety supplies such as your fire extinguisher, smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detector. Replace all of the batteries and test these. You should have at least 2 fire extinguishers with one of them being kept in your trailer while the other one should be in the towing vehicle.

These are just a few tips to get you started on a summer full of RVing fun. Thank goodness the small rodent that was awaken confused from his hibernation didn’t think that there would be another 6 weeks until spring because we couldn’t be more ready to get in our RV and start exploring!
