Here are some tips to improve your score and have that new camper before the first day of camping season kicks off.

  • Set up bill paying reminders. Late payments are a big reason for dips in your credit score. From here on out make sure to get all of your bills in on time. (Be aware that paying off a collection account will not remove it from your credit report, it will stay there for 7 years.
  • Keep balances low on credit cards. If you have a high outstanding debt it will have a negative affect on your credit score.
  • Pay off debt rather than moving it around. (I know, easier said than done) In fact owing the same amount but having few open accounts may actually lower your credit score.
  • Don’t close unused credit cards. This can also hurt your credit score.
  • On that same note, don’t open up new credit cards to increase your available credit. This could backfire and lower your score as well.
  • Last but not least talk to an experienced credit counselor who can point you in the right direction to get your credit score back on track.

Remember that your credit score can’t be fixed over night but with diligence in bill paying and following all of the tips above you will be well on your way to owning your new RV in no time!
