Home Made Dog Treats

dogtreatAs I have mentioned before I treat my dogs just like family and like family I want to give them the best food and the best treats. Unfortunately those store bought treats are full of chemicals not to mention can get incredibly expensive. Luckily these recipes not only ensure you are giving your four legged friends the best but you can also reduce on your own food waste by re-purposing leftovers and making them canine friendly.

Leftovers Trail Mix:

You can combine any of the following leftovers from your refrigerator to create a flavorful trail mix.

Ingredients

  • Pieces of meat (if seasoned or marinated rinse off the flavoring)
  • Potatoes
  • Vegetables (no onions)
  • Fruit (no grapes or raisins)

Cut all of the ingredients into 1/2 inch thick pieces

Spray a baking sheet lightly with cooking spray and put into 200 degree oven until dried (you could also use a food dehydrator) Simply store in a sealed plastic bag)

Frozen Peanut Butter Yogurt Dog Treats

My dogs love anything frozen so this would be a perfect summer treat.

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cups of peanut butter

Melt the peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl. Then combine the yogurt and melted peanut butter. Pour the mixture into cupcake papers and place in the freezer. You can also put the mixture into a plastic bag and cut the tip off. Squeeze bite size dollops onto a cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen you can put into a tupperware in the freezer ready to be used.
