As most people have noticed, the RV industry just gets better over time. The units improve in looks as well as 
durability and the quality is always increasing. One of these improvements that Keystone and other manufacturers recently made was to start designing their roofs using TPO. TPO is a durable and economical single ply system that consists of thermoplastic polyolefin membrane. This membrane is composed of three layers: 1.) TPO polymer base 2.) polyester-reinforced fabric center and 3.) thermoplastic polyolefin compounded top ply. TPO offers many of the same benefits as PVC roofing such as energy efficiency but at a lower cost. In addition TPO resists mold growth, dirt accumulation, tears impact, and punctures. It is designed to be flexible to allow for sway and settling. TPO is a one piece installation which cuts down on the possibility of leaks and or cracks and has the added benefit of reducing the carbon footprint.

Sometimes the things we can’t see are the things that end up biting us in the end. This is also true when it comes 
to your RV roof. Since you so rarely see the roof it is easy to ignore but I’m here to tell you that this could be a costly mistake that is easily avoided.
One of the best ways we have found to help prevent weathering, wear and tear, and chalking is using the Camco RV Pro-Tec Rubber Roof Care System. This is an innovative 2-step roof care system that comes with a gallon of Camco rubber roof cleaner and a gallon of Camco rubber roof protectant. Before you start your camping season (and at the end of the season) we recommend using this product. The rubber roof cleaner helps to remove all debris and gives you a clean slate to then apply the rubber roof protectant. This protectant helps to protect the roof from the damaging effects of the sun, rain, and hot and cold temperatures. This can dramatically prolong the roof of your unit and save you potentially hundreds of dollars. Owning a fifth wheel is arguably one of the lower maintenance recreational vehicles. You don’t have to worry about many of the vehicular issues that 
motor-homes have and you can quickly attach and detach your RV when camping. Despite not requiring a great deal of maintenance there is one part that you simply don’t want to neglect and that is the hitch. If you choose to do so you may end up with a “stuck” hitch release.
These fifth wheel hitches have moving parts such as the locking assembly that prevents your king pin from sliding out of the saddle. Since this has multiple steel parts that work together they need lubricant regularly. To check your hitch and perform maintenance you will need to rotate the hitch around so you can see the underside where all of the gears and moving parts reside. Many 5th wheel owners use a plastic “hitch disc” so they don’t have to lubricate the skid plate but there are other places in and on the hitch that need lubrication. White lithium grease is a common lubricant that many RVers use and can be purchased at any auto parts store. Be sure to apply the lube to all moving parts especially where your jaws or locking bar slides through. To move the lubrication through the parts open and close the fifth wheel mechanism several times. This should not only protect the interior workings of your fifth wheel but also make it easier to hitch up and unhitch with the parts moving more freely.
