Get Your Camper Ready For Spring!

Spring weather is upon us, which means it’s time to get your camper ready for your first vacation of the year!

Exterior:

  • Starting with the exterior: First check all the tires (& spare) for proper air pressure and cracks in the sidewalls.
  • During the winter months, critters and rodents can make nests in your camper as well as tree limbs can fall on your camper. So check the unit for any damage.
  • Remove outside and inside protecting covers.
  • Check all your outside components. (Cracked side vents, missing light covers, baggage door operation, turn signals, etc.)
  • Be sure to check that your license plate tabs are up to date.

Interior:

  • Check your windows and roof vents by opening them & airing out the camper.
  • Thoroughly clean the inside and check for critters like bugs, mice, etc.
  • Vacuum all the flooring, inside the cabinets and under sleeping areas too.
  • Double check and make sure your first-aid kit is up to date.
  • Check linens, towels, bedding and other cloth materials that ,may not have been removed before winter.

Operating systems

  • De-winterize the unit and flush the freshwater system.
  • Make sure your freshwater system is operating properly. Check the water pump and city water hook-up as well. Test all your valves (faucets, outside shower, and toilet).
  • After flushing, fill the freshwater tank to check fore leaks in the upper part of the tank, fill hose and vent tube. You’ll want to fill it completely full at least once a year.
  • Change the batteries and make sure the carbon monoxide detector, smoke alarm, LP detector, and fire extinguishers are all in working order.
  • Check your battery. Make sure it is fully charged, terminals are tight and the water level is correct.
  • Check the water heater on gas and electric (if equipped so). Check the gas burner tube, make sure it’s clean and nothing has nested. If it has bypass valves, make sure they’re returned to the “summer” position.
  • Take your propane tank(s) to be filled. Many states require the tanks be re-certified after a set period of time. Check to make sure your tanks aren’t due for recertification.
  • Make sure all appliances are working properly. Wipe out the fridge and check both the gas and electric operation.
  • Lastly, clean the air conditioning filter if need be.

Have an amazing camping season & we hope this list helped you prepare for your next camping trip!
